SIDE TO SIDE. DARIUS SEGMIS

Beat up ass, mean front, angry sounds and smoky clouds – red beast that took a part in drift life a year ago, now going sideways like a hungry wolf for more speed. It‘s only been a year, but it already has been participating in several championships abroad and across the country, got four winner cups, got the sponsor and sure thing he won‘t stop just yet.

The owner, Darius, is from Alytus. About a year ago he met one of the best drifters in our country and soon after became his sponsor. Like that wasn‘t enough, Darius himself, got into drifting too. When I asked him why, he smiled and said, „It‘s a fun way to push time“. Getting deeper into a conversation, Darius added: "I went to Kėdainiai once and asked Gediminas to let me try to drive through the track. I was interested in how it all works and I liked it.", smiled. "I like to learn about this thing more and more". Though the drifter is still learning, you can feel the progress growing everytime he spins that sports wheel. After all, everyone of us starts from nothing to be something one day and I guess Segmis really knows how to do so.

Stateta is a gas station originaly located in Alytus and some other towns of Lithuania. I had a chance to meet with the boss and he seemed to be really nice. He's also step by step getting more and more into drifting. Darius said that he's happy to be partners with Stateta and sees all the good things working with them in the future. Moving along, the driver doesn‘t stand in one place and I believe that one day he‘ll be one of the best drifters around.

The red beast – a stock 93‘s Nissan S13 with rocket bunny kit that has a sr20det heart, td04 turbo and nistune. It has 350hp with 1.2 bar. The monster also has z32 maf sensors, 555cc injectors, programmed unex, coolerfab and rear suspension. The car was built by golden hands of Gedas, the other drifter who said that "It‘s just a small part of what this beast has".

"I would never drive BMW", says Darius, when I asked why he chose jdm over bavarian who are so popular in drift world nowadays, "It's not a car!", says laughing. The journey of S13 began in Klaipėda, when one day Darius and his friend went there to pick up the beast, which, at the time, had TI and could've be driven in the streets. "The car didn't had a roll cage, it was plain empty", says Darius. In spring time he had second thoughts about the drift car and was seriously thinking about getting S14, "I changed my mind quickly. We wanted to get Nissan S14 because we've had 2jz, but then it broke". After some thinking he decided to keep the red beast instead. "Maybe we'll put 2jz into my S13 someday".

Talking about future plans, Darius says that he‘s planning on getting his team stronger and more united. I‘m sure that most of the fans have heard about new drifting team Side To Side who has 6 members. Though having troubles with the cars, only three drivers can participate. „In the future we‘ll be managing some of the events and use earned money for our own good. Hard work pays off“, says Segmis. From my point of view, Darius has some strong goals for near future and is hoping that everything will work out, „I also will be able to see who‘s really into this with me“.

I asked if he's planning on changing his S13 in to S14, as he was thinking of before, "I don't know yet. I guess we will see in the future", smiles. For now Darius is enjoying the ride with what he has earned to this day: a really good sponsor, new team and new exciting goals for all of us in some kind of way. We will see what the future holds and for now, I wish all the luck for this one creative mind to get what he wants and for the beast to keep on going like it always has been, it seems that no one can beat it. Let's hope no one ever will.
